Sponsor Introduction {& Giveaway}: Fiddlehead Artisan Supply

I’m thrilled to introduce you to my very first sponsor, my local quilt shop located in Belfast, Maine–Fiddlehead Artisan Supply. Fiddlehead Artisan Supply is a family-owned sewing, quilting, and craft-supply shop in beautiful midcoast Maine. In addition to a great selection of modern quilting cottons, patterns, thread, and notions, Fiddlehead offers a wide range of other craft supplies all within one of the most aesthetically pleasing shops I’ve visited. It’s a haven for makers. Just for my readers, Fiddlehead is offering 15% off anything in their online shop with the code nightquilter15%.

To kick-off our partnership, Abby at Fiddlehead invited me to curate a bundle of low volume fabrics, AND is offering a bundle as a giveaway to one of my readers. I love low volume fabrics, since they are so versatile in quilting and just about anything. There’s nothing like a scrappy low volume background to help colors pop.

This bundle of eight (8) fat quarters includes (clockwise from top):

– XOXO Cotton + Steel basics by Rashida Coleman Hale
– Dotti’s Cousin in Natural, Mochi by Rashida Coleman Hale for Cotton + Steel
– Prisma in Honeycomb, Minimalista by Art Gallery Fabrics
– Hello Bear by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics
– Cotton + Steel basics by Alexia Marcelle Abegg
– Passport Parchment Paris Map by 3 Sisters for Moda
– Music in Neutral by Tim Holtz Eclectic Elements
– Passport Charcoal Etchings by 3 Sisters for Moda

Just for fun, and since I have a baby shower to attend this weekend, I decided to whip up a quick project using this bundle. I made a one hour basket (free pattern by Kelby Sews) using the fabrics from this bundle and some scraps of Alison Glass’s Sun Prints Grove.

I love these low volumes!

The recipient of this basket hasn’t found out the gender of her baby, so I thought the sleek low volumes and pops of color were the perfect combination.

  1. I enjoy The Cotton Cupboard Quilt Shop and Bernina Dealership in Bangor. The staff is friendly, lots of samples, fabrics, books and patterns. And of course I like to drool over the newest machines!

  4. I like that my LQS is within 2 miles of my home, which makes it easy to stop by and check out what’s new, take classes (they have a good selection) and most importantly I can get out of a jam in an emergency, whether fabric or project related.

  5. I like that my local quilt store stocks lots of different styles of fabric, and has lots of bins of sale fabric.

  6. I love that Fiddlehead Artisan Supply is my LQS because that place is amazing. They have the best selection and their facebook posts are constant inspiration. I go there at gift-giving times every time and it never fails that I’ll find something amazing to create for my loved ones or give them supplies to make their own creations. Psyched to find this blog too. Good crafty goodness all around!

  7. If I didn’t have my LQS, I would have to travel 40 miles round trip to get to the next closest one. Plus she carries gorgeous fabric and all the employees are wonderful!!

  8. Unfortunately, I do not have a local quilt shop. When I make a trip to one of the quilt shops, my first focus is fabric. Love the visual treat of all the luscious colors and just touching and mixing and matching the fabrics that reach out to me. Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway. (shirparks@gmail.com)

  10. I don’t have a local quilt shop close to my place here in France, and it’s very sad because I used to live in Canada, BC, near a fabulous quilt shop! I loved to look at beautiful fabrics (and buy some of course!), great supplies, and sometimes take a lesson with the very kind people of this shop!

  12. I have yet to find a LQS that I really like. There’s one that’s 20 miles away that I like but it’s not easy to get there. I’m not a fan of the shop that is much closer to me because of the customer service. I don’t know why, but every time I’ve been in there (which is 7-8 times in the last year) they never say hello, never offer assistance, and when I ask for help, I feel like I’m inconveniencing them. I don’t understand it, especially when I’ve seen others come into the store and they get such a warm welcome. Maybe I don’t fit their stereotype of what a quilter should look like.

  13. My local quilt shop is not very local but it’s where I go to find the perfect fabric I’m missing to complete my project. I can pull from stash to begin with, but I always need one more piece of fabric or a border or a backing to make it all sing!

  14. I’ve been looking online for a quilt shop in Australia (local enough), as sadly with the exchange rate and mostly due to shipping costs, it’s just too expensive for me to shop from the U.S. for now. I’ve mainly been trying to find a quilt shop that stocks Alison Glass’s Mercury, but I can’t find it anywhere. So if they stock, Alison Glass and Cotton + Steel, that’s good enough for me at the moment.

  16. Firstly I love your basket, I’d never have thought to use those fabrics for a baby gift but it’s worked beautifully! What I like to see in a quilt shop is samples made up – I love seeing patterns come to life and see how they use the new fabrics x

  17. Okay – I have soooo many favourites – but best of all I work next to a quilt shop so I can duck out at lunch and fill up my fabric desires with a couple of fat quarters. Dangerous to work next to a quilt store.

  18. My favorite thing about my LQS is the owner. She was one of the first people I met when we moved here and she helped me feel at home in both the shop and the community. She is a wizard with a needle and thread – if she can’t do it, it can’t be done. She always has exactly what I need in the shop and is always able to help me out if I run into trouble with a project or with the ups and downs of life. She’s priceless!

  21. I have so many quilt stores near me, and I love them all. I love being able to connect with others who love fabric and quilts as much as I do, being able to get and give advice and just being able to see so many things in my LQS. I especially love that I have two in my town and they are completely different, so I can get my traditional fix at one, and then head to the other for my more modern and bright stuff. It’s nice to be able to support local business as well.
