FQS Giveaway June tula pink throwback

Friday Finishes & Tula Giveaway

Ahh, Friday! We love Fridays in this house, since not only is it the last day before the weekend, but it also means family movie night. I make homemade pizzas, we set out picnic quilts in the living room, and we have a pizza picnic while watching a movie. After pizza, there’s a short intermission for popcorn making and we enjoy the rest of the movie with huge bowls of popcorn and buttery fingers. My husband has a bit of a thing for popcorn, so he makes enough to feed a small army, which I suppose we are becoming as the kids get older! While this week had its share of frustration, I also finally finished and shared two projects. A week with one finish is great; a week with two finishes is worth celebrating!!

I love linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts’ Finish it Up Friday to share in the celebration of finished projects in the quilting community, so I figured I’d write a summary post this week so that I could link up with just one post instead of two. I also have a great giveaway sponsored by Fat Quarter Shop to share to help kick off the weekend!

So here we go–my finishes for the week!

fqs simple zipper pouch teacher giftI finished three cute Amy Butler-inspired rainbow zipper bags as end of the year teacher gifts for my son’s preschool teachers and communication facilitator. There is a great video tutorial posted by the Fat Quarter Shop so that you can make your own. You can see and read more about my zipper bags HERE.

oakshott lipari vesuvius quilt sizzixI also finished a volcano-inspired quilt with Oakshott’s new Lipari fabric line. This was a much longer term project, taking about 18 hours of work to make, start from finish. I share a tutorial so that you can make your very own Vesuvius quilt if you want! Check it out HERE.

Giveaway!

Tula Throwback bundle FQS giveawayAnd now, for the giveaway! Thanks to the Fat Quarter Shop, one of my lucky readers can enter to win a Tula Pink Throwback fat quarter bundle of 20 fat quarters! The bundle includes some of the most popular prints from Tula’s collections over the past four (4) years, and would be a great stash builder for any modern fabric lover, whether you’re a Tula troops die hard who would pay a premium for these prints on ebay or not. There are also many fabulous opportunities for meticulous cutting with these beauties!

To enter the giveaway today, tell me–are you a fabric designer fanatic, willing to pay top dollar for rare out of print fabrics? or are you happy using whatever gorgeous fabric is available now, regardless of designer? I’m curious, since while I consider myself to be in the latter category, I could definitely see myself paying more than market value for *some* rare and beloved out of print fabrics. Leave a comment and make sure I’m able to get ahold of you if you win.  If you’re a follower of Night Quilter, leave a second comment telling me how you follow for a second entry. Tell me how you follow Fat Quarter Shop (facebook, twitter, Instagramtheir blog Jolly Jabber, etc.) for a third entry.

This giveaway is open to US and international participants.  The giveaway will be open until Thursday June 9th at 8pm EST when I’ll select the winner randomly with random.org. Good luck! This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations, Tessa!

Thanks again to the Fat Quarter Shop! Blog sponsors help me to keep this blog going by helping cover the costs of hosting, photography equipment, supplies, and of course time. Sweet, precious time. Many many thanks to all who support me!

  1. I won’t pay exorbitant prices for OOP fabric, it’s expensive enough as it is. Really, I sew with a mix of fun new fabrics and older stuff from my stash. And scraps! I love the colours in this bundle though! Crossing my fingers.

  2. A few years ago (before house and kid), I was willing to pay for what I wanted, but now I just use what I can get. Typically I buy over what I need of prints I like…so I’m probably paying just as much as I was before, but getting more fabric for the buck.

  3. i’m happy for the most part just buying what is current..their are some collections that I find out about later that I would love to have, but I’m not going to pay crazy prices.

  5. I’ve happily paid above and beyond for the now OOP Japanese print ‘Kerchief Girls’, to ensure I have it in as many different colours possible. Other than that, I’m happy to use my stash and/or fabrics currently available to purchase, when I start a new project.

  6. If I paid a fortune for fabric I know I’d never be able to cut into it! Though sometimes I get an idea in my head and I have to find the exact fabric I’ve imagined a project in and nothing else will do! I love your pouches, they’re on my to-sew list atm and thanks for the amazing giveaway x

  7. I occasionally feel that I must have some more of a particular wonderful fabric that is no longer readily available and I search diligently to find some. Sometimes I find it but not always, but I won’t pay extravagantly for it. Mostly I use what I have and what is available.

  8. My thrifty side would never allow me to pay a fortune for out of date fabric. I rarely buy fabric just because I like it, I don’t have a hughstash, to me there is no point because there is always a fabric I love and ‘can’t do without’. If there is a sale, thats another matter.

  9. In England we pay silly prices for fabric anyway, it is so much more expensive than in the States with a fat quarter being over $5. I tend to buy just what I like from whatever I can get in the shops at the time. Thanks for a great giveaway. x

  10. I’m a little of both…for the most part I’m happy with what’s available and don’t want to spend a lot on rare fabric but I could see myself falling in love with a retired fabric and really wanting it

  11. This is a good question. For the most part I buy what’s in the shops and i’ve been trying to use the fabric in my stash more and more….however I do like to sometimes buy Japanese fabrics or African fabrics and they can cost more . There was a time when I would have paid more for a certain Anna Marie Horner print but I don’t think I would anymore.

  12. I tend to buy collections of favorite designers, but if I came across a piece of an out of print fav, I would pay more.

  14. I am, by definition, a cheapskate. I tend to buy most of my fabrics secondhand (to pacify my increasing concern about manufacturing and consumer practices, as well as for economic reasons. Also, I do like the creative challenge…), but I will lay down money hand over fist for a few very specific, very beautiful and striking prints by certain designers (not least Tula Pink). *mental shrug* Balance and moderation in all things, right

  15. I love Bonnie and Camille. I am willing to pay more than regular price for some of their prints, but not all of them. That is the only designer I have done this for.

  16. Hi Kitty, rare and beloved.
I found some Jennifer Sampou fat quarters (Native Plains 1989-199) at our local Quilt Festival 4 yrs ago. Did some research on her prints and collections, etc after making a small lap quilt w/these lovelies. She answered all my emails and had some of the rare fabrics in “her shed out back” and of course I ordered those and completed another quilt.

  17. I ended up with some valuable OOP fabric and……sold it. I’d rather buy more fabric than feel the pressure to make the perfect thing out of something “precious.”

  18. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a fabric that I HAD to have regardless of cost. There always something new coming out that might be my next favorite!

  19. There are a few older fabrics I’d love to get more of (Heather Ross) but overall I am always excited to see what’s new.
