Friday Finishes & Tula Giveaway

Ahh, Friday! We love Fridays in this house, since not only is it the last day before the weekend, but it also means family movie night. I make homemade pizzas, we set out picnic quilts in the living room, and we have a pizza picnic while watching a movie. After pizza, there’s a short intermission for popcorn making and we enjoy the rest of the movie with huge bowls of popcorn and buttery fingers. My husband has a bit of a thing for popcorn, so he makes enough to feed a small army, which I suppose we are becoming as the kids get older! While this week had its share of frustration, I also finally finished and shared two projects. A week with one finish is great; a week with two finishes is worth celebrating!!

I love linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts’ Finish it Up Friday to share in the celebration of finished projects in the quilting community, so I figured I’d write a summary post this week so that I could link up with just one post instead of two. There is a great video tutorial posted by the Fat Quarter Shop so that you can make your own. You can see and read more about my zipper bags HERE.

This was a much longer term project, taking about 18 hours of work to make, start from finish. I share a tutorial so that you can make your very own Vesuvius quilt if you want! Check it out HERE.

  4. Though I am very happy buying the newest gorgeous fabrics on the market, I would definitely pay a premium for a few old pieces (Tula’s little raccoon fabric for example). Thank you and the FQS for the great giveaway.

  6. Hi, Kitty! How great it must feel to have two finishes for the week! When it comes to fabric, I am somewhere in between the two — appreciate the older beautiful fabrics, but maybe a smidge practical about paying big prices for out-of-print ones, when there are so many beautiful new ones coming along.

  11. I have very little cash for the fabric I can get easily and none at all for the super awesome OOP fabrics. I use what I can get but I do lust after certain fabrics/designers. Thanks for the great giveaway!

  12. No matter how much I love a particular fabric or line, I can’t afford to indulge myself in anything really special. I use mostly fabrics from my stash and replenish through really good sales. It would be so much fun to play with these Tula Pink fat quarters. Thanks so much for the opportunity.

  14. I usually buy what is current that I like. But I have many times sought out older lines from certain designers’ fabrics to have for my projects. I follow FQS on Jolly Jabber and newsletter and you on your blog. Thanks for the giveaway!

  18. I try to buy affordable lovely fabrics but when I REALLY want something special, I have paid a premium price! So I guess I’m kind of in-between! I follow FQS by email newsletter and Facebook.

  21. I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a fanatic overall, but Tula Pink is the exception. I’ve paid a lot for some of her out of print fabrics, mostly the squirrels from the Birds and Bees line that I was using in a quilt for my son, as well as fabrics from the Neptune or Saltwater line. Love me some Tula!

  23. I’m an absolute fabric snob most of the time and have my favorite designers that I always have the latest fabrics from. I’ve definitely paid way too much money for rare fabrics before and can never seem to convince myself that there’s going to be good stuff coming out in the future that will be just as cute.

  25. There have been occasions when I’ve searched for and found older fabrics in order to finish a project but generally if I like it I buy and when it’s gone I’m sad for a moment. Don’t think I’d pay over the odds for it tho.

  28. I have done both. I am usually a, buy new and love it, but I have paid more for a few fabrics. I am a fanatic of Marcia Derse and paid more for some of her out of prints.

  36. I will chase down a new print I like, but I’m too cheap to pay much extra per yard for out of print fabrics. But never say never!

  43. It’s very unlikely that I’d pay over the odds for fabric, I already have plenty of fabric and would struggle to justify spending lots of money on some OOP

  46. I love Kaffe Fassett prints, and I will pay more for his fabrics, but I most usually buy fabrics that I love on sale. I also will buy more of blenders if there is a good sale; they always get used up in one project or another and keep the overall cost down. I am excited about your 3 teacher gifts – so cute! – and especially the one with the large Amy Butler teal print, as I remembered that I have a piece of it and have not yet used it – treasure!
